Industrial Air ISO 8573-1
ISO 8573-1 gives us parameters to measure our compressed air quality against. In high purity industries this is an important piece of information to have. What kind of industries? Pharmaceutical, Micro Biology, Micro Electronics, Food and Beverage Production, Medical Devices, etc.
However we can make a compelling case for almost any compressed air system. How about a body shop that keeps getting fish eyes in a paint job? Or a paper manufacturer that gets spots on the finished product and is unable to determine what the cause is? Maybe you get rust flakes in your tools and you are not sure why?
SECAT is able to test the air in all these systems and can then help you determine your best steps. We can work with your existing service provider to get the clean dry air you need.
Breathing Air
Many people are familiar with breathing air in certain professions. Most people think of fire houses, haz-mat teams, and scuba diving. But what about sandblasters, powder coating and painting? How about construction such as asbestos removal or people who go into confined spaces? Fact is there are many places that people are using, or should be using a breathing protection system. If that system is fed by or filled by compressed air, would you like to know what is in it?
Equipment Sales
SECAT has teamed up with Nano Purification to offer specialized equipment and filtration.
Because of SECAT's experience in the compressed air world, Nano seemed like the perfect choice to team with.
From specialized filtration to breathing air systems, we can help your facility get what it needs to operate safely and with the quality you are seeking.
We will work with a local contractor to install the equipment that is wanted and needed to accomplish your filtration and purity requirements.
Microbial
Compressed air can also contain micro-organism contaminants. Compressed air systems can create an environment that helps micro-organisms grow. Water, warm temperatures and even some oils can propagate growth of bacteria, viruses, yeast, and mold.

Testing can help identify and mitigate potential product damage that can have a devastating effect on a company. Most Bioburden Testing is carried out in pharmaceutical, medical device, and food producing facilities. This is because contaminants can be found in the air compressor and in the air lines located throughout the facility. Many of these facilities have programs in place to monitor the environmental air but overlook the compressed air system. Testing of the compressed air stream can also help companies find the right technologies or lubricants for their system.
How does this happen do you ask?

Micro-organisms can enter the compressor and system straight through the intake of the equipment. Intake filters do not remove these contaminants. Equipment placed down the line after the compressor can possibly take care of these issues. In addition, the dryer may have an effect on slowing growth, but often will not eliminate it. Bacteria can be very resistant to heat, dehydration, and UV, so a -40 dryer is not guaranteed to alleviate any issues.

Regular testing is the best method for being sure these contaminants do not harm your product, your process, and your company. The unfortunate part is that there are no solid guidelines to perform to.

ISO 8573-7 is a great source for sampling methods and parameters but does not establish any limits. This guideline is referenced by the British Compressed Air Society. The SQF Code states that compressed air shall be regularly monitored for purity, and that food processing facilities need to operate from a fundamental assumption that compressed air can be a source of chemical and microbiological contamination. Food facilities must verify and validate the compressed air used in their facility is appropriate for use and not a source of contamination.

SECAT is available to test for these contaminants that will aid companies in keeping their products safe for everyone to use.
